Which coffee fortune telling apps do people in Turkey actually use?

Updated 14 September 2026 · Türkçe

Short answer

The names you will hear in Turkey are Faladdin, Kaave and Binnaz. They bundle coffee reading with tarot and horoscopes and run on a free-credit-plus-waiting model: you can get a reading for nothing if you are willing to wait, and you pay to skip the queue.

The distinction that matters is not price, it is whether the app looks at your cup at all. Many apps return pre-written text regardless of the photo. Falcı reads the photo and also computes a real natal chart from your birth date, time and place — one coffee reading, one birth chart and three daily readings are free for life, no code needed. iPhone only.

What Turkish coffee reading actually is

Turkish coffee is brewed unfiltered, so grounds settle at the bottom of the cup. When the cup is finished it is turned upside down onto the saucer and left to cool; the grounds run down the inside and leave shapes. Fal means fortune, and reading those shapes — tasseography — is a social ritual as much as a divination practice: it usually happens between friends, over a second coffee, with a lot of laughing.

The reading follows a rough map. The handle side stands for the person and their immediate circle, the far side for what comes from outside, the rim for the near future and the bottom for the distant one. The saucer is read as the home. A symbol means different things depending on where it sits — a bird near the handle is news arriving soon, the same bird opposite it is news from far away.

Three kinds of app, only one of which reads the photo

  1. Pre-written text. You upload a photo, an animation plays, and you get one of a few stock readings. Test it: upload the same cup twice, or a photo of a blank wall. If the reading still mentions "a journey and news", nothing was read.
  2. Marketplace apps. Your photo goes to a human reader and the answer comes back hours later as a voice note or text. This is real human work, and priced accordingly.
  3. Model-based readings. The app reads the shapes and the distribution of the grounds in your photo and generates the interpretation from that. Fast, cheap, and not a human reader.

What Falcı does and does not do

Falcı reads the cup photo and interprets it alongside your birth chart, so the same shape does not produce the same sentence for two different people. The chart itself is computed from an ephemeris — planets, Placidus houses, aspects — and read through three traditions at once: Western astrology, the Chinese BaZi four pillars and the Old Turkic twelve-animal calendar.

What it does not do: no human reader, no Android version, and no question-led tarot spread — its tarot is a fixed three-card draw (situation, obstacle, advice) read alongside your chart. If you do not know your birth time, it leaves the ascendant and houses uninterpreted rather than guessing. Your birth data and notes stay on your device and in your own iCloud; readings are generated on a server and nothing is kept afterwards.

Photographing the cup

  1. Turn the cup upside down on the saucer and let it cool for five to ten minutes.
  2. Shoot in daylight, without flash — flash flattens the grounds.
  3. Get the whole inside of the cup in frame, with the handle visible: the reading is oriented around it.
  4. The saucer carries its own meaning, so photograph it separately if you want that part read.
